MAN VS SELF
Man Vs Self is the type of conflict wherein the character is their own enemy. The character has to overcome his or her own flaws or complexes. It is an internal conflict. This conflict is usually used as a means to focus on self-growth or can be used as a secondary conflict to build more tension.
MAN VS MAN
Man Vs Man conflict is a very common type of conflict used in almost all genres. In this type of conflict the two characters have opposing beliefs or interests. This is typically depicted between the protagonist and the antagonist. This is an external conflict and is generally used in mystery or thrillers.
MAN VS SOCIETY
In Man Vs Society conflict, the character has to go against the society as a whole instead of just one person at a time. This is an external conflict wherein the character disagrees with the societal views and norms and tries to go against them. This is also a very common type of conflict and can be seen used in movies or novels where the main character fights against the society.
MAN VS NATURE
The Man Vs Nature conflict tends to be used more in movies or novels that have a plot line revolving around natural disasters or problems arising because of nature which are beyond the controls of men. For example storms, earthquakes, animals are beyond a human’s control. This is also an external conflict.
MAN VS MACHINE
This is a more modern and contemporary uptake on conflicts. This is an external conflict wherein the main character is put up against manmade machines. For example, the protagonist has to fight against robots. This is a very popular form of external conflict and can be seen used in The Terminator or Robot.
MAN VS FATE/SUPERNATURAL
Man Vs Fate/Supernatural conflict is an external conflict that can be seen used in movies or novels where the protagonist or the main character is in a battle of survival against supernatural beings. One of the best example of Man Vs Fate/Supernatural conflict are Avatar, Piranha 3D, The Mummy Returns, etc.
